Free Rangers 1: Peter Watkins

So I’ve finally gotten around to dipping into that huge pile of postcards and business cards that’s been sitting on my desk since Free Range, and as promised I’m going to start posting about some of my favourite work from the show. First up: Peter Watkin’s series Hope of Additional Light/Now We See A Darkness.

Watkin’s website seems pretty bare at the moment, and I couldn’t find any information about this series but nevertheless I’m struck by the weird, garish beauty of these photographs. I really liked the asymmetrical hanging too. No wonder they were chosen for the University of Westminster posters.
