1000 Words
August 20, 2008

1000 Words is an online photography magazine “dedicated to highlighting the best work being produced internationally in photography today.” Issue 1 was launched very recently and there’s an interesting mix of work included, both from names I recognise and names I don’t. 1000 Words also has a blog that’s worth checking out. Incidentally a couple of my images from Fragments were featured on there recently, which reminds me – in the next few days I should have several new Fragments on my website. I’ve been stalling a bit over the past few weeks but I’m starting to get the itch again, so expect to see more new work in the near future…

David Maisel’s series Library of Dust depicts individual copper canisters, each containing the cremated remains of patient from a state-run psychiatric hospital. The patients died at the hospital between 1883 (the year the facility opened, when it was called the Oregon State Insane Asylum) and the 1970’s; their bodies have remained unclaimed by their families.

I think it will be useful for me to keep a journal of mostly photography related things I am looking at/reading/working on etc for reference, so that’s what this is. I’m not saying it will be interesting or useful for anyone else, but feel free to have a look round…
